Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam

We traveled to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) to photograph Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of The Council of the Twelve Apostles from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as he made a historic visit to Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City center is a beautiful modern city with historical and contemporary architecture buildings spread over a large populated city

We took some photographs from the top of the Bitexco Financial building's 68 floors

Some reflections from the glass at the observation deck

Near the center of the city is the Caravelle Hotel

The Caravelle Saigon Hotel has both a history from the Vietnam war era and for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

During the Vietnam war journalists from the major United States news channels all gave their reports from the hotel's roof...some of us can recall wittnessing NBC & CBS nightly reports of the war in the late sixties and early seventies from this rooftop

October 30, 1966 then Elder Gordon B. Hinckley of The Council of the Twelve Apostles along with Elder Marion D. Hankes, and two hundred members gathered on the hotel's roof and dedicated the land of Vietnam to missionary work...you can read more in LDS Confrence Report April 1968 page 21-24

While in Vietnam we were in a taxi accident where Chris broke her arm and wrist...and was banged up quite a bit

She toughed it out until we could return to Phnom Pehn where the bone was set re-set and put into a cast

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland accompanied by Elder Gong made a visit during travels in South East Asia to Vietnam meeting with over two hundred members in Ho Chi Minh City...you can read more about his visit at www.mormonnewsroom.org.kh
